The Southwest Washington Community Land Trust has completed its first project. In partnership with grassroots redevelopment agency American Building Community, the trust rebuilt a dilapidated 1948 house at 4912 Nicholson Road.
Many other community partners helped with the rebuild, which aims for energy efficiency, sustainability and low-income affordability. They were such public entities as Clark County, the City of Vancouver and Clark Public Utilities, and private businesses as Structures NW, Prairie Electric, Richart Weatherization, Parr Lumber and Pacific Cabinetry. There was lots of volunteer labor too.
Now, the house is ready for an unveiling, 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 30. Because of limited parking at the house and no-parking regulations on Nicholson Road, attendees are asked to park north of the house on Northeast 50th Street off 34th Avenue, or at the Jim Parsley Center east parking lot and walk north past the baseball fields to Nicholson Road.
Land trust President Ron Barca said there’s already a buyer in place for the house, which was available to someone whose income is no more than 80 percent of the area median. The land itself will remain the property of the trust.
