SNOQUALMIE PASS — The King County sheriff’s office says a search and rescue team has located the body of a hiker who was killed in an avalanche last month at Granite Mountain near Snoqualmie Pass.

Sgt. Cindi West says the team went up early Wednesday because recent snowmelt has lessened the avalanche danger and made it easier to find the body.

Mitch Hungate, a 61-year-old Renton dentist, was buried April 13 in one of two fatal avalanches in the area.

A 55-year-old woman, Joy Yu, was killed in an avalanche on Red Mountain, near the Alpental ski area. She was a naturopathic physician who practiced in Bellevue.
