IRVING, Texas (AP) — The Byron Nelson Championship is set to make a move to a course that still has to be built.
Tournament officials and the PGA Tour have signed a 10-year contract with developers of the Trinity Forest golf course with plans to move there in 2019.
This week’s Byron Nelson marks the 30th anniversary of the event being played at the TPC Four Seasons, which has a contract through 2018 to host the event.
The Dallas City Council on Wednesday unanimously authorized a 40-year lease with the Company of Trinity Forest Golfers, the nonprofit entity that will control the course. Among the requirements of that deal is that the course host the Nelson.
The course will be built on an old landfill off Interstate 45 south of downtown Dallas.
