FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Matthias de Zordo will be unable to defend his javelin title at the track and field world championships in August in Moscow after tearing his Achilles tendon.
De Zordo tore the tendon in his right foot during a competition in Halle/Saale, eastern Germany.
The German news agency DPA says de Zordo hurt himself in his fifth attempt at the meet and will miss several months of competition.
