Letter: Old bridge inspires plenty of faith

The Columbian
Published: May 29, 2013, 5:00pm

How many of you are in favor of the I-5 replacement bridge staying so low? The three businesses upstream from the bridge that are affected aren’t the only ones you should worry about. Our mighty Columbia River starts up in Canada. What if a company like those we have in Vancouver would want to expand its business in Camas or Washougal or even farther? Are we, the taxpayers, going to have to subsidize them because they won’t be able to transport through the road, or should I say the bridge, block here in Vancouver?

The river doesn’t end just past Vancouver. And look at the trouble Portland is having with the MAX lines. You never know when it will be running or not.

The oldest I-5 bridge span has been standing for over 100 years and stood through all the earthquakes we have had. And if the “Big One” does come, I would still put my trust in the old bridge rather than a new one with all its bells and whistles.
