NEW YORK (AP) — Freshman Jon Severe scored 28 points to lead Fordham in an 87-67 victory over St. Francis Pennsylvania on Friday night.
Severe was also 7-of-10 from the three-point line. Junior Bryan Smith chipped in with 18 points and led the Rams with 8 rebounds. Mandell Thomas had 15 points. Senior guard Branden Frazier who averaged over 14 points per game last season finished the game with 10.
Fordham (1-0) had a 45-27 lead at the half and pulled ahead by as many as 27 points at 11:59 in the second period.
Earl Brown led the Red Flash (0-1) with 16 points while Stephon Mosley added 14.
The Rams’ Severe was the New York State Player of the Year in 2013 at Christ the King High School in Queens.
The game was the fourth contest between the two teams with the series even at 2-2.
