Cartwright scores 25 as Penn tops Monmouth 79-73

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Miles Jackson-Cartwright made 5 of 8 from beyond the 3-point line and scored 25 points as Penn topped Monmouth 79-73 on Tuesday night.

Monmouth jumped to an early 12-2 lead but Penn (1-1) proceeded to score the game’s next 16 points, during which Monmouth didn’t make a field goal for over seven minutes and committed six turnovers. Penn also closed the first half on a 10-0 run.

Monmouth (1-1) cut the score to 74-71 with less than half a minute remaining but Penn made 5 of 6 free throws after that to close the game.

Darien Nelson-Henry led Penn with 11 rebounds and added 14 points.

Andrew Nicholas scored 19 points for Monmouth and Deon Jones added 17. Monmouth shot just 35.2 percent from the field and made just 16 of 29 free throws.
