Penn, Murray help Texas Southern beat Wiley 113-96

HOUSTON (AP) — Ray Penn had 29 points and 11 assists, Aaric Murray had 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks as Texas Southern beat Wiley 113-96 on Monday.

Law Johnson-Danner scored 22 points, Jose Rodriguez added 18 and Aaron Clayborn 14 for the Tigers (2-0), who shot 55 percent from the field (38 for 69). Texas Southern was also 11 for 27 (41 percent) on 3-pointers, led by Johnson-Danner’s 6-for-8 and Penn’s 4-for-8 efforts. Penn also shot 11 for 11 on free throws.

Corey Blake scored 38 points on 16-for-26 shooting to lead the Wildcats (0-1). Phillip Miller had 13 points, DeAndre Smith scored 10 and Henry Sidney had 15 assists.

Wiley shot 49 percent (38 for 77) and was outrebounded 44-28.

Texas Southern led 58-49 at halftime.
