Charlotte pulls away late for 83-69 win over Elon

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Shawn Lester scored a game-high 24 points and had 11 rebounds as Charlotte pulled away from Elon down the stretch for an 83-69 win on Friday.

Charlotte (2-1) trailed the Phoenix (2-1) 62-58 with 5:16 left before finishing the game on a 25-7 run. Terrence Williams scored 12 of his 16 points during the stretch to lead the 49ers.

Elon led by as many as 12 early in the first half, but Charlotte responded and the teams went to halftime tied.

Mike Thorne Jr. scored 14 for Charlotte. Pierria Henry had 13 points and Willie Clayton added 12. Thorne Jr., Henry, Williams and Lester have all reached double figures in each of Charlotte’s three games this season.

The 49ers outrebounded Elon 47-26. Charlotte’s bench outscored the Phoenix 27-8, led by Lester’s 24.

Austin Hamilton led Elon with 19 points.
