SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) — Dyami Starks scored 30 points and Bryant used a big second-half run to defeat Vermont 87-64 on Saturday night.
Starks, a junior guard, scored 35 points in each of Bryant’s previous two games.
The Bulldogs (2-1) were up 37-32 at halftime. The Catamounts (1-2) got as close as four early in the second half and were down 52-47 with 14:15 remaining when Bryant went on a 16-1 run. That left the Bulldogs ahead 68-48 with 9:03 left, and the Catamounts wouldn’t get closer than 17 after that. Alex Francis had six points and Starks five during the run.
Francis finished with 22 points, Joe O’Shea 15 and Curtis Oakley 10 for the Bulldogs, who shot 55.8 percent. Senior Corey Maynard had a career-high 10 assists.
Clancy Rugg scored 13 points, Luke Apfeld and Sandro Carissimo 12 each and Naasir Williams 10 for the Catamounts. Brian Voelkel grabbed 10 rebounds.
