TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays say hitting coach Chad Mottola and first base coach Dwayne Murphy won’t return next season.
The team said Monday that Murphy was retiring as a major league coach.
Bench coach DeMarlo Hale, pitching coach Pete Walker, third base coach Luis Rivera and bullpen coach Pat Hentgen will be back in their current roles.
Mottola began his coaching career in the Toronto system in 2007 after concluding a 16-year playing career. Last season was his first at the big league level.
The Blue Jays hit .252 last season, 15th in the majors. The Jays were fourth in home runs with 185.
Murphy had been a coach with the Blue Jays since 2008.
