Retired Seattle archbishop has stroke

SEATTLE (AP) — The Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle says retired Archbishop Alexander J. Brunett had a stroke Thursday and underwent surgery at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.

The archdiocese says Brunett is in critical but stable condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Brunett served as archbishop of Seattle from 1997 to 2010.
