NORTH BEND — The King County sheriff’s office says a deputy shot a man who drove a van toward deputies Thursday morning near North Bend.

Det. Jason Stanley says it happened about 2 a.m. when deputies spotted a parked van they had briefly pursued Wednesday because the driver was wanted on arrest warrants and for not having a driver’s license.

As they approached the van, the man started driving toward them, so one deputy fired her pistol.

Stanley says the driver was hit in the head, but the wound is non-life-threatening. He’s recovering at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Stanley says the man is a 35-year-old Snoqualmie resident who is known to deputies from previous contacts. Deputies broke off Wednesday’s chase after the van headed up a mountain road.
