TORONTO (AP) — Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon was ejected from Sunday’s season finale against Toronto for arguing with plate umpire Paul Schrieber.

Maddon came to the mound to talk with reliever Joel Peralta after Moises Sierra walked to load the bases in the seventh.

When Schrieber came out to break up the meeting, Maddon turned to speak to him and was immediately ejected. The Rays’ 7-0 lead after 4 innings had been trimmed to 7-4 after seven.

Maddon was apparently upset at a two-strike pitch to Sierra that Schrieber ruled low.

It was the fifth ejection of the season for Maddon, whose team needed to win Sunday to assure itself of at least a tie for an AL wild card berth.
