Letter: Resistance hinders plane discovery

The Columbian
Published: April 3, 2014, 5:00pm

Michael E. White asks in a March 28 letter, “How does the impossible happen?” how it can possibly be that the Malaysian jumbo jet simply disappeared and is taking so long to be found. There are several reasons, and, no doubt, some reasons we will never know.

For days, if not weeks, the Malaysian government refused help from outside sources.

Other countries, among them China, were unwilling to share data.

The Indian Ocean is very large, full of uncharted currents, very stormy and very often concealed by cloud cover.

Perhaps White’s view from Brush Prairie does not reach to the vastness of the ocean, nor the turbulence of sky and sea.
