The Clark County Sheriff’s Office honorary chief-for-a-day program is expanding to other area law enforcement agencies.

Sheriff Garry Lucas and this year’s honorary sheriff, Cole Merle, held a fundraiser Friday evening to benefit the program. Cole, who has done toy drives for other sick children, didn’t want to be the only kid in the county who got to be chief for the day.

The Battle Ground, Camas and La Center police departments have said they will adopt the program that celebrates the lives of children diagnosed with life-threatening or chronic medical conditions.
