The state Department of Revenue says taxable retail sales increased nearly 5 percent in the first three months of the year to more than $27 billion.
The department said Monday there was an increase of about 19 percent in e-commerce and mail order sales. Auto sales, home furnishings and construction were all up more than 6 percent, compared to the same period last year.
Taxable retail sales were up nearly 8 percent in Seattle and about 10 percent in Bellevue and Vancouver. Taxable retail sales were up about 5 percent in Spokane.
Tax revenues support schools, social services, public safety and other government services in Washington.
