Letter: Handout enables those breaking law

The Columbian
Published: February 5, 2014, 4:00pm

The Washington state Senate is trying to pickpocket the hard-working, taxpaying citizens of the state — again. This time with the immigrant financial aid measure, Senate Bill 6523, which authorizes college financial aid for students illegally brought to the United States as children.

If we don’t let bank robbers’ kids keep the money from their robberies, why is rewarding criminal activity (entering the U.S. illegally) something we turn a blind eye to? We never seem to have enough to help out our returning military veterans, fixing roads and bridges, but another handout to illegal immigrants who have broken many laws just by being here is a good idea?

Let’s hope the House sees the folly in this measure and says “no.”
