Letter: Share reduced salary for ‘training’

The Columbian
Published: February 8, 2014, 4:00pm

Reading the Feb. 5 story “Bill: Allow sub-minimum ‘training wage,'” I think that state Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, may be on the right track except for trying to lay everything on the back of some poor soul who is trying to get by on such meager pay.

Let’s take this a step further and have all the new state legislators start out at 50 percent of current pay. And add a stipulation that they must attend all sessions and if they don’t then they get no pay for the month. We could also stop paying for their dry cleaning, phones and all the other perks they seem to think they deserve. Just a thought.
