Angling regulation proposals for the East Fork of the Lewis River will be discussed when the Steelhead Management Work Group meets at 1 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd.
The 20-member panel has been meeting monthly with state fish managers in Southwest Washington since September to discuss steelhead in the Lewis and Washougal watersheds, plus in Salmon Creek.
The work group has recommended designation of the East Fork of the Lewis River as a wild steelhead gene bank with the planting of hatchery-origin winter and summer steelhead to end.
Setting up a network of gene banks is one of a number of strategies endorsed by the department’s Statewide Steelhead Management Plan, adopted in 2008.
