HOQUIAM — More than 60 residents have been evacuated from a low-income senior housing apartment building in Hoquiam because of hazardous levels of bacteria.
The Grays Harbor County Emergency Management Agency says the bacteria were found after water damage from sprinklers that put out a small fire last week at the Emerson Manor.
The agency’s Chuck Wallace tells KBKW many of the residents were moved Monday to the Immanuel Baptist Church in Hoquiam. It’s uncertain how long they’ll be displaced.
The Red Cross, state Department of Social and Health Services and other agencies are working to help the residents.
