Letter: Service via existing rail lines

The Columbian
Published: February 28, 2014, 4:00pm

With work possibly beginning someday on the Interstate 5 Bridge I wonder about the commute to and from Vancouver and Portland for thousands of residents.

There is railroad right-of-way from Battle Ground to Vancouver to Portland so I was thinking that with great planning and timing, a system could be set up without a lot of stress.

When I was living in California some time back, they had a train that went from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Barbara and all points in between, back and forth all day long.

I would think with the right program here people would really use a train. And why not as it’s a lot cheaper, no gas, no traffic, and time saving. I feel this might work better than a whole new light-rail system. It would also be saving tax money.
