Letter: Cuts affect those without means

The Columbian
Published: January 9, 2014, 4:00pm

We just finished another season with Republican pundits crying about the war on Christmas and Christianity. But don’t worry. Using their self-proclaimed Christian values, the Republicans filled their Christmas basket with cuts to food assistance for poor children, early childhood education, research on childhood diseases and programs for homeless children. I particularly liked the cuts to services for children suffering with autism, Down syndrome and disabilities.

You older kids found cuts to federal financial aid and higher fees for college loans all stuffed in your Christmas stockings. You parents and seniors found cuts to job training programs, unemployment benefits and Meals on Wheels all wrapped up in a charming package.

Best of all, the vital trickle-down gift of a 12 to 15 percent income tax rate once again went to Mitt Romney and his rich Republican friends.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and remember that Republicans need your prayers but don’t deserve our vote.
