Esther Short — If anyone has an eye for parking, it’s Vancouver Parking Enforcement Officer Dareen Thielbar. The city employee recently won two awards in a photo contest held by The Parking Professional magazine for her shots of the downtown Park ‘n’ Go garage, one in the “Beautiful” category and the other in the “Nature” category. Her photos were featured in the magazine’s January issue, and she won $50 to spend at the International Parking Institute’s online store. She’s worked for the Parking Services department for 11 years.

“I’m very happy for her,” said Parking Supervisor Karen Kumpula. “It’s not always a job where you get a lot of praise.”

Thielbar on the job is featured in a video at www.cityofvancouver.us/ced/page/vancouver-parking-services-employee-wins-two-photography-awards.
