Letter: More than 60% favor restrictions

The Columbian

It’s after 11 on a Wednesday night. The fireworks started 2 hours ago. They will continue, for 4 or more hours a night, every night, for the next week or longer.

Last fall, Clark County commissioners placed six advisory votes on the Nov. 5 general election ballot. Of those six, the one that got the most votes cast (96.1 percent of all ballots returned) was about fireworks use and sale.

More than 60 percent of us (53,762 votes) were in favor of this unambiguous advisory vote to restrict the use and sale of fireworks. There is no plausible explanation for the county commissioners’ failure to implement the changes voters approved.
