Thousands of yellow rubber ducks will float down the Washougal River later this month in a longtime Camas Days Festival tradition.

The Camas-Washougal Rotary Club will host the 20th annual rubber duck race, known as the Ducky Derby, on Sunday, July 27, at the Third Avenue Bridge in Camas. The event is the club’s largest annual fundraiser, with more than 97 percent of the proceeds going toward service projects and scholarships.

Every year, more than $10,000 from the event goes toward scholarships for local high school students. Participants can purchase the ducks for $5 each, and prizes will be awarded to the owners of the top finishers at the end of the race. The club anticipates the race will feature nearly 5,000 ducks.

First place wins a weeklong stay in a condo in Hawaii, and second place wins a gold bracelet worth $600. In all, at least 50 prizes will be given out.

The club encourages the public to watch from along the banks of the river.

Tickets are available on weekdays at Columbia Litho, located at 302 N.E. 6th Ave., in Camas. They will also be sold on July 25 at Camas Days and on July 27 at the site of the Lacamas Lake Half Marathon in downtown.
