Letter: Rulings rendered not by gender

The Columbian
Published: July 19, 2014, 12:00am

In a July 16 letter “Keep laws that free our choices,” Roz Luther wrote that “none of these men (male justices of the U.S. Supreme Court) have been pregnant when they didn’t wish to be.” She indicates that the justices “have made another chink in the armor of contraceptive opportunities for employees.” She seems to forget that in 1973 the historic Roe v. Wade decision was rendered by all-male justices of the Supreme Court. This decision made available choices for women who became pregnant and didn’t wish to carry the pregnancy to term.
