The Washington Department of Natural Resources says fire crews are responding to a wildfire about 12 miles east of Ellensburg that has burned more than 500 acres.

The Daily Record reported the fire was burning Tuesday near a wind farm in the Vantage area. Given the windy conditions in the area, state officials say the fire has a high potential for growth.

Several miles of the Vantage Highway have been temporarily blocked as firefighters work to contain the blaze.

There was no immediate word on a cause.
