SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A 15-year-old cyclist hit by a Spokane County deputy’s vehicle in Spokane Valley has died.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center on Wednesday night confirmed the death of Ryan Holyk.

The teen was attempting to cross Sprague Avenue late on May 23 when he was struck by the patrol car driven by Deputy Joseph Bodman.

According to the Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team, police say Bodman had a green light on Sprague and was on his way to back up another deputy who had stopped a suspect with a domestic violence warrant.

Witnesses have said Bodman’s emergency lights were not on at the time of the crash.
