Vancouver — The Oregon & Southwest Washington Blood Program is asking donors to give twice between June 15 and Oct. 4 to ensure an adequate blood supply during the summer.

Blood donations typically decline during the summer months but demand for donations increases. The program needs to collect about 100 units of blood per day to provide an adequate supply for local hospitals, treatment centers and clinics.

The program is urging people to pledge two blood donations this summer: one between June 15 and Aug. 9, the second between Aug. 10 and Oct. 4. Donors can safely give blood once every 56 days.

Donors who give twice will receive a limited-edition cookbook filled with personal recipes from program volunteers and staff.

The donor center is east of Westfield Vancouver mall at 9320 N.E. Vancouver Mall Drive, Suite 100. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 800-398-7888. For more information, visit www.oswblood.org.

The Oregon & Southwest Washington Blood Program is part of the Puget Sound Blood Center.
