Letter: Good transit helps all the masses

In the June 5 article “Madore escalates C-Tran offensive,” Clark County Commissioner David Madore says, “I believe in well-managed public transit service that serves those that have no other practical means to get around.”

Our family has a perfectly functioning Toyota Prius. Additionally we have well-maintained bicycles and we’re no strangers to hiking. Even while having these modes of transit, we frequently make C-Tran and TriMet trips — especially when we’re going to an area where parking will be an issue or during a time of day when traffic may be a problem. Besides buses we’ve also used passenger trains, light rail and even airplanes to get where we’re going in a leisurely and timely fashion.

If Madore thinks that public transit is only for “people who have no other practical means to get around,” perhaps he doesn’t understand the meaning of the phrase “public transit.”
