Clark County — Practice, practice, practice. That, of course, is how the Vancouver USA Singers made it to Carnegie Hall.

The community choir debuted at one of the most famous concert halls in the world, in New York City, on the afternoon of June 8 as part of a multi-choir extravaganza called “Bluegrass & Gray: Sounds of Americana” that included 200 singers as well as bluegrass band Dailey & Vincent.

All of that was preceded by an audition tape and much fundraising for the trip — plus all that practice, of course. It paid off: “I cannot begin to describe what an incredible experience it was. Looking out on the audience from the stage in Carnegie Hall was surreal. Receiving standing ovations was even more incredible,” alto Marna Hopkins said.

Choir director Jana Hart said many of her singers called the outing life-changing.

Now the VUSAS are working on a choral exchange with a choir in California — and auditioning more singers for next season.
