Vancouver man suspected of DUI hurt in single-vehicle crash

A Vancouver man who is suspected of drunken driving was injured in a single-vehicle crash on state Highway 14 in Skamania County on Wednesday evening.

Robert A. Haverkate, 59, was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee west on the highway about 7:15 p.m., five miles west of North Bonneville, when the Jeep left the roadway and went into a drainage ditch, according to a memo issued by the Washington State Patrol.

The vehicle then returned to the roadway, crossed the highway and struck the eastbound guardrail, which caused it to overturn, according to the memo. The vehicle came to rest on the centerline.

Haverkate was taken to PeaceHeath Southwest Medical Cente,r where he is listed in satisfactory condition.

He was cited for suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
