DENVER — A bill that would make it legal for banks to do business with marijuana businesses is getting little interest in Congress.
The Denver Post reported Thursday that most members of two House committees that could take action on the measure didn’t respond to queries seeking their position. Meanwhile, five members of the Financial Services and Judiciary committees said they didn’t have a stance.
The bill was introduced by Colorado’s Rep. Ed Perlmutter and Rep. Denny Heck of Washington. It would allow banks to do business with pot businesses in states where marijuana is legal.
Most committee members don’t come from states where marijuana is legal.
Most of Colorado’s delegation is in favor of the bill. Rep. Doug Lamborn opposes it and Reps. Cory Gardner and Scott Tipton haven’t taken a position.
