PORTLAND — Firefighters have extinguished a blaze at a Washington County house that caught fire during a standoff between deputies and a suspected shooter.

Portland TV stations and The Oregonian report that the fire started Wednesday afternoon after deputies used tear gas to get him out of a home in the North Plains area.

Authorities said the search for the suspect was over just before 5 p.m., bringing to an end the hours-long standoff. They did not give further details about the suspect’s status.

The sheriff’s office said the man shot another man with a rifle just after 11 a.m.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital with an injury described as serious.

Investigators at the scene told reporters the shooting appears to have stemmed from a family dispute.
