Cascade Park — A big grant from one local nonprofit agency to another will help troubled children in Clark County.

Children’s Center, the area’s only clinic for uninsured and underinsured children and their families, recently won a $250,000 grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. Murdock, a powerful charitable foundation, is based in downtown Vancouver, which is precisely what Children’s Center is getting ready to leave — from cramped, rented space over to a brand-new building at 13500 S.E. Seventh St.

The $250,000 grant will help with construction costs for the project, which is expected to cost a total of $6.3 million. The new Children’s Center building is expected to open for business in May 2015. The agency serves 1,600 children and families each year.
