Whitworth University sophomore forward Rylan Berriman has been named Northwest Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 6-12.

The Mountain View High School graduate scored twice — on three shots — to help lead Whitworth to a 6-1 victory over Whitman on Saturday. The Pirates (10-1-1, 5-1-1 NWC) bounced back from their first loss of the season with the rout.

Berriman put the Pirates ahead in the seventh minute, taking a long pass from Spencer Wolfe and catching the Whitman goalkeeper off his line. Berriman received the pass and had a shot at an open net after dribbling around the keeper just inside the box.

Berriman then netted his second goal of the day on an assist from Sam Engle in the 67th minute.

It is Berriman’s second NWC weekly honor. He was also selected for the week of Aug. 31 through Sept. 6.

Whitworth plays Saturday at Puget Sound and Sunday at Pacific Lutheran.
