I am a former Clark County commissioner, a Democrat, albeit from a time long ago. Nevertheless, I add my voice in opposition to the proposed charter. It’s impossible to articulate all the reasons this charter is not in the best interests of our community in a short letter. However, eliminating our existing form of county government because of dissatisfaction with the present county commission is a mistake. While the three-commissioner body has not always been without controversy, over the years Clark County has been well-governed. I believe the proposed charter will generate many unintended negative consequences as well as costs and should be defeated.
