NORDMAN, Idaho — An elderly couple has been rescued after they attempted to flee their snowbound car on foot without coats.

The Coeur d’Alene Press reports that Priest Lake Search and Rescue says Don and Sharon Kendrick of Usk, Washington, were attempting drive north of Priest and Upper Priest lakes when their vehicle became stuck in the snow Saturday night.

PLSR says the couple told searchers they don’t think they would have survived the night if they had not been found.

The search began around 7:40 p.m. A dispatch center located their cellphone on a road that a local sheriff’s deputy said was impassible.

Rescuers briefly reached Don by cellphone. He said the couple had a small blanket but were very cold.

Temperatures were in the mid-30s when searchers found the couple.
