Letter: Suggestion to disarm is alarming

The Columbian
Published: February 13, 2015, 12:00am

Conspicuously absent from the news pages of The Columbian and most other mainstream media outlets were the comments Michael Bloomberg made in Colorado at a Feb. 5 event at the Aspen Institute, which suggest that we should curtail the Second Amendment rights of minority young adults.

In the statement, which can only be characterized as blatantly racist, the former mayor of New York City shows his true colors and aspirations. As the income gap in America widens, the privileged white billionaire knows that his future security depends on the disarmament of the masses, plain and simple.

This comes as no surprise to many of us who witnessed the Initiative 594 misinformation campaign by Bloomberg’s “Anytown, USA,” which, with the assistance of the media and millions of billionaires’ dollars, pushed through the absurdly restrictive “background check” law on the Washington state ballot in November.

Will The Columbian ever print the whole story or only those parts that they wish to support and influence? The free press has responsibilities. It’s high time The Columbian lived up to them.
