SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State University athletic department ran a $13 million deficit at the end of 2014.
Spending rose to nearly $60 million, about $10 million more than in 2013.
Athletic Director Bill Moos tells The Spokesman-Review the spending included buying out the contract of former basketball coach Ken Bone and hiring a new coach. The department also added $1 million to the budget for football coaches and paid bonuses to the coaches after the Cougars made their first bowl game appearance in a decade.
Moos says the WSU athletic department expects to be solvent by 2019.
