SEATTLE — Passengers on two planes were delayed on arrival Sunday at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport because of bomb threats.
The jets were parked at the far southwest end of the airfield, while customers walked out on staircases, watched police and dogs check their suitcases, and caught a bus ride to the terminal.
Both planes were “cleared of security concerns,” and one of them returned to California with passengers afterward.
In addition, a Delta Air Lines spokesman says a flight from Los Angeles to Orlando was diverted to Dallas on Sunday afternoon, and searched, due to “a security concern.”
Sunday’s incidents came one day after two flights to Atlanta received what authorities deemed a credible threat, leading them to send military fighter jets as an escort. No explosives were located.
JetBlue Flight 1006 from Long Beach reached Sea-Tac around 4:15 p.m., then parked on or alongside the third runway, some 2,500 feet from other flights, as a precaution, said airport spokesman Perry Cooper.
A second plane was delayed, a Delta/SkyWest Flight 4741 from Phoenix, which landed around 4:36 p.m.
The pilot mentioned three bomb threats, said Jenna Luthman, an executive producer at Northwest Cable News, who was on board and spoke to KING 5 during its 5 p.m. newscast. Luthman said the pilot walked among the passengers and described the threats as “low credibility.”
“Everyone seems pretty lighthearted,” as the crew kept them informed, Luthman said on the newscast.
Federal authorities continue to investigate, Cooper said. No passengers were detained, he said, and no arrests reported as of 8 p.m. Sunday.
