The kickoff for Sunday’s Portland Timbers match against San Jose has been moved to 8 p.m. at Providence Park.

The Timbers announced the change on Thursday, citing a forecast for temperatures in the upper 90s. ESPN2 will show the match.

“The safety of our fans, players and everyone involved with the match is our No. 1 priority,” said Mike Golub, president of business operations for the Timbers.

The club also announced that sealed plastic bottles containing water and sports drinks will be allowed into Providence Park for the Sunday game and for the Thorns Friday home match.
