Letter: Unkept promises aren’t leadership

With the noise, pollution and threats to our persons, property and animals from fireworks fresh on our minds and with the primary election near, it is time to expose Councilor David Madore’s campaign slogan of “Promises Made, Promises Kept.”

In 2013, Clark County voters considered advisory votes, and 60.25 percent supported a proposal that unincorporated Clark County be subject to the same regulations for the sale and use of fireworks as the city of Vancouver. When councilors finally adopted fireworks regulations, they ignored the desire of the voters. There are now differing regulations within the unincorporated areas, and fireworks can be legally used on New Year’s Eve. It’s clear Madore keeps promises only if they are promises he supports. These are not qualities of a leader. Madore should not be elected to chair the county council.
