Skyridge Middle School honored several students at an end of the school year assembly, including those who have contributed on a personal level with fellow students. The Warren Awards are presented annually in conjunction with the Jack, Will and Rob Center Sustaining Fund and the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington.

The 2014-15 recipient of the Good Will Award is Katja Miller. As an eighth-grader, she has had a positive impact on her fellow students, according to a press release.

“She has gone out of her way to support someone that is having a difficult time or to assist a student or teacher in the classroom environment,” the release stated. “No matter what the situation, Katja always finds the good or positive…Going above and beyond to demonstrate kindness, compassion, and loyalty to friends, teachers and other students, Katja only takes the high road.”

This year the Jackson Leadership Award recipient is Scott Thorkelson. He has taken on the role as school ambassador, helping to make Skyridge one student body.

He was instrumental in the creation of the Skyhawks FIRST (Friendship, Inclusion, Respect, Success, Together) Club, collaborating with others to create the club’s goals, constitution and by-laws.

“He set out the plan for how this club would support our students with special needs and modeled the way for all Skyridge students,” the release noted. “His kind heart and love for people has guided him in making choices that affect all students and has made Skyridge a stronger, kinder, enriched learning environment.”
