Clark County Public Health urges the public to avoid the water in Vancouver Lake due to high levels of blue-green algae, or cyanobacteria.

Vancouver Lake Regional Park will be open to the public, but Clark County is recommending that people don’t enter the water, windsurf or sailboard, according to a county news release. Visitors to the park should also keep their animals away from the water, and should be cautious if they’re boating.

The advisory does not affect the 2015 PDBA Dragon Boat Regional Championships this weekend, and spectators will be safe on the shore, according to the news release.

Water in park restrooms and shelters is not affected by lake water. Eating fish from the lake is safe as long as the fish’s organs, such as their liver and kidney, where toxins can build, are removed and fishers wash their hands after cleaning the fish.
