Clark County is kicking off a second round of election filings this week for positions that attracted no candidates in the regular filing period last month.

Filing week began on May 11. By the time it ended four days later, 115 candidates had signed up to run for 80 positions in Clark County and jurisdictions stretching across parts of Clark and Cowlitz counties. Yet several local elected offices failed to garner any interest.

Under state law, the county is required to hold a special three-day filing period to fill those holes. The county auditor’s office chose to start the new filing period at 8 a.m. Tuesday, and it will close at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Candidates can sign up online at clarkvotes.org between 9 a.m. Tuesday and 4 p.m. Thursday. Of course, filings can also be done at the Clark County Elections Department, which is located at 1408 Franklin St. in Vancouver.

For more information on the requirements and qualifications for the open positions or how to file for them, contact the county elections staff at 360-397-2345.
