State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler has issued an $8,000 fine against insurance agent Matthew John Smith of Camas, the commissioner’s office reported this week.

In a news release reported that “Smith sold at least eight life insurance policies to Washington residents that were not approved for sale in Washington and falsely indicated they were sold in Idaho or Oregon. Smith acknowledged he knew they were not approved for sale in Washington.”

The fine was one of several levied by the state in May. In total, $36,000 in fines were levied against insurance companies, agents and brokers that violated state insurance regulations that month.
