OLYMPIA — The House and Senate both passed resolutions honoring the late Washington State University President Elson Floyd, with lawmakers praising him as an advocate for the college and students across the state.
The chambers passed the resolutions Thursday, after lawmakers spoke of their memories of Floyd, who was 59 when he died this past weekend of complications from colon cancer, the Spokesman-Review reported.
Floyd was the 10th president of Washington State University and the first black leader of the Pullman-based school.
A measure to name the medical school at the university has already been introduced in the House, and a companion measure in the Senate was to be introduced this week, as well.
