PARKLAND — Pierce County is moving against a state-license recreational marijuana store that opened in Parkland over the weekend in defiance of a county ban.

A county building official notified the business called The Gallery that it lacks a conditional use permit, which the county won’t issue.

County spokesman Hunter George told The News Tribune newspaper the process is “very cordial” and the business won’t face penalties right away.

Co-owner Tedd Wetherbee says he plans to appeal.

The Gallery could face a fine of up to $1,000 a day.

Wetherbee and co-owner Mike Henery opened the store Sunday. They say the county tolerates many legally dubious medical marijuana establishments.
